Offices guide

INTRODUCTION

The Church of Scotland's work is not confined to its offices, churches and buildings. The Church is about God's love in action, mission and support across the country, and indeed throughout the world. To support this work, the daily administration functions of the Church are carried out at the following venues:

121 George Street, Edinburgh

The Church offices at 121 George Street, Edinburgh, provide a central venue where the majority of the central administration functions of the Church are carried out.

Based in the heart of the capital's New Town and built at the turn of the 20th century, 121 George Street houses around 200 members of staff who carry out the central work of the Church's councils, committees and departments, other than the Social Care Council (CrossReach). The majority of council and committee meetings are held here.

Charis House, Milton Road East, Edinburgh

The Social Care Council, known as CrossReach, employs more than 2,000 staff in 80 services stretching from Shetland to the Borders. CrossReach's care and support services help thousands of people in need every day of the year.

The central administration work of CrossReach is based at Charis House in Edinburgh. Originally the home of the Jenner family, built around 1860 it was bought by the Church in 1960 and it became Queens Bay Lodge eventide home. In 1992 a purpose-built new home was built on a piece of ground adjacent to the original house and the residents were transferred to there. The building was then adapted to office accommodation and renamed Charis House (Charis is Greek for grace). More than 70 staff are now based there.

Local area offices

The Church also operates three local area offices outwith Edinburgh. The Mission and Discipleship Council's Regional Development Team has eight regional development officers based in Glasgow, Inverness and Perth who act as the first point of contact with our local congregations. The Glasgow office is also home to officers of the Ministries Council.
