THE CHURCH OF SCOTLAND TRUST MAY 2007 PROPOSED DELIVERANCE The General Assembly 1. Receive the Report and thank the members of the Trust for their diligence. 2. Reappoint John M Hodge as members of the Trust from 1st June 2007 3. Thank Mr Robert Bow and Mrs Fiona B Cameron for their service to the Trust. REPORT The Church of Scotland Trust, which was established by Act of Parliament in 1932, submits its Seventy fifth Report to the General Assembly. 1. The Work of the Trust (a) General The function of the Church of Scotland Trust is to hold properties outwith Scotland and to act as a trustee in a number of third party trusts. During the year it has dealt with various matters which have arisen regarding these properties and trusts. Matters of particular significance are noted hereafter. (b) Israel The Trust continues to be consulted by the World Mission Council regarding ongoing and future developments relating to property in Israel. The Trust was represented on the Israel Options Study Group set up by the World Mission Council. The Trust was also represented on the Tiberias Review Group which reported to its commissioning bodies, the World Mission Council, the Stewardship and Finance Committee and the Trust in 2006. The Council of Assembly was also provided with a copy of its report, for information. The recommendations of the Review Group Report are narrated in the Report of the World Mission Council. The Trust places on record its appreciation for the enormous amount of work and commitment given by the members of the Group. (c) Pakistan Little progress has been made in the transfer of the Church of Scotland’s heritable properties in the Diocese of Sialkot to the Sialkot Diocesan Trust Association. The World Mission Council Convener and Associate Secretary (Centrally Supported Projects) visited Sialkot in 2006 and between the time of writing this Report and the General Assembly being convened a visit by the Associate Secretary and the Secretary of the Trust will have taken place. It is hoped that this visit will result in new initiatives for progress being put in place. The Trust continues to be a party to a number of court cases involving its property interests in Pakistan and no substantive progress has been made regarding these actions during the last 12 months. The Trust is legally represented in these cases but, due to the nature of the Pakistan legal system, it is anticipated that these cases will be ongoing for a number of years. 2. Accounts for 2006 The Trust’s Accounts for the year to 31st December 2006 have been audited and copies thereof are available on request from the General Treasurer. 3. Membership In accordance with the constitution of the Trust, the following two members retire by rotation on 31st May 2007 but are eligible for reappointment: Mrs Fiona B Cameron and Mr John M Hodge. It is suggested to the General Assembly Mr John M Hodge be reappointed as a member of the Trust from 1st June 2007. Mrs Fiona B Cameron does not seek re-appointment and members would like to record their gratitude to her for her service to the Trust since her appointment in 2003. Mr Robert Bow has tendered his resignation from the Trust with effect from 31st May 2007. The members of the Trust wish to record their appreciation to him for his 15 years service to the Trust.
