Welcome from the Convener
 |
"'Encounter'
lies at the centre of the Mission and Discipleship
Council's remit. We seek to provide opportunities
that allow an encounter with the person of Jesus,
offering an opening to respond to his call to discipleship.
|
The transforming nature of this encounter moves us forward
to serve and share the Good News. Within the Council we
are aware of the need to communicate effectively using
a contemporary style that recognises our heritage within
the history and life of the Church of Scotland.
Through our Task Groups we find a focus for inter-linked
work in Education and Nurture, Mission and Evangelism,
Worship and Doctrine and Church Without Walls. Each
of these Task Groups offers a shape to the work we do.
With the key task of resourcing Congregations and keeping
Mission before Scotland we connect directly through
the Development team. This is a team of specialists
called to serve the church nationally.
We often focus on areas of need and through occasional
resources, available to all congregations of the Church,
we equip individuals for leadership and provide tools
to explore what it means to be a Christian today and
how to give expression to the faith within us. We hope
these resources of people and material will provide
a springboard to growth in our relationship with Jesus."

Working together
The work of the council will be taken forward by
its Publishing Committee and the Committee on Church
Art and Architecture, along with three task groups: |
 |
- The Education and Nurture Task Group
- The Mission and Evangelism Task Group
- The Worship and Doctrine Task Group
This is in addition to the Regional Development Team
which is at the heart of the council's strategy. Eight
regional officers are based around Scotland with offices
in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Perth.
The Mission and Discipleship Council has also established
a Mission Forum for the Church with the goal that a
mission-oriented ethos should inform and affect every
area of work undertaken by the Church.
You can find out more about the work carried out by
these committees, teams and task groups by using the
links on the right hand side of this page.
